Terre Haute’s Police Chief says the person wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Terre Haute Police Officer tonight (Friday, May 4, 2018) has also died. State Police Sergeant Joe Watts says the shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. when the victim and other officers went to the Garden Quarter area in the city searching for a suspect in an earlier homicide.
The officers were immediately met by shots from the apartment complex when they arrived. Shortly after the shooting police had been telling people in that area to shelter in place. The suspect was shot and killed. The officer was taken to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute where the officer was pronounced dead. The officer’s name and the name of the suspect have not been released.
Law enforcement officers across a wide area of Indiana were on the scene.
