The Danville District 118 School Board has placed a proposed new budget on public display that includes a projected $5-million dollar deficit. Director of Business and Finance, Narcissus Rankin, said projected revenue for the 2021-2022 school year totals over $84-million-778-thousand dollars. But expenditures total an expected $89-million-72-thousand dollars.
Rankin called the revenue estimate conservative. And she noted that when the last fiscal year ended District 118 had received approximately $7-million dollars more in revenues for the year than what was expected.
Also during their meeting Wednesday evening, District 118 Board members approved a $90-thousand dollar agreement with the East Central Illinois Community Action Agency to provide after-school tutoring for up to 300 students.
Some board members also thanked teachers and administrators for the work they have been doing preparing for in-person learning in the local schools again. ‘’Teachers are ready to get back with their students,’’ said board member Johnnie Carey. ‘’They know what the challenge is – and they are ready for the challenge.’’
‘’Here we are again – facing challenges from COVID’’, noted Pastor Thomas Miller, another board member. ‘’I will continue to pray for all of you this year,’’ added Miller.
