The City of Danville is working with a company interested in redevelopment of property at the northwest corner of Vermilion and Fairchild Streets. Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says Highland Ventures (the developer) has a preliminary site plan but does not yet have any leases.
Eisenhauer says once the site is cleared the developer would market commercial spaces on three lots. The city would retain the right to choose a different developer if no redevelopment occurs within one year. And any franchises or leases must be five years or greater in length. And no lease would be with a current business or restaurant within the City of Danville unless the development would consist of an expansion to a second or additional location.
Highland Ventures would pay the City a total of $328-thousand dollars for the parcels at 900, 914, 912 and 914 North Vermilion Street.
Vickie Haugen, President of Vermilion Advantage, says Highland Ventures is a reputable company ‘’which has other investments in our community.’’ She added Highland Ventures has been talking to potential tenants. She says the company approached the City in March of 2017 expressing an interest in the site. And representatives from the development company are planning to attend this month’s large retail convention in Las Vegas. It is a meeting which sometimes leads to landing potential tenants.
No vote was taken on the plan by members of the City Council’s Public Works Committee (at their meeting last night – May 8th, 2018) – but Mayor Eisenhauer says it will now move to the full city council next week.
