As the new school year gets underway, Danville Police Chief Christopher Yates is reminding motorists to be extra careful in school zones…
{‘’You know, we do a lot of pre-school start-up traffic details – trying to get everybody to pay attention to traffic control devices, as well as stop signs. Make sure people just slow down and understand they can get from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ doing the speed limit – and usually get there faster.’’}

Chief Yates also reminded motorists about laws regarding stopped school buses…
{‘’Well, if it’s a two lane roadway you have to stop. If it’s a four-lane roadway – such as Vermilion Street – opposite direction traffic can continue. But usually where you’re going to see those stop signals are going to be on your two-way roadways where you have north and south, east and west, with no median or lane in between.’’}
Chief Yates says officers will be paying close attention to motorists around schools…
{‘’We always try to pick it up during this time of year, and then send out reminders to the public as much as possible to keep our kids safe.’’}
Students have returned to school all over Vermilion County, East-Central Illinois, and West-Central Indiana, so motorists need to be careful. The Indiana schools in our area started their new school year last week.
