The National Weather Service has extended a Heat Advisory for our area until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday. But the hot, humid weather is expected to continue for the next few days.
Heat index values – or how hot it feels when you factor the temperature with the humidity – are expected to be as high as 105 to 110 degrees. The hot weather can cause heat illnesses with prolonged exposure. And heat illnesses can overtake you suddenly.
Take steps to limit your time outside during the hottest part of the day this week. Dress in light colored clothing, drink plenty of water, and do not forget to check on those who are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. That includes young children, the elderly, and those with chronic medical conditions, or those without access to air conditioning.
Also keep a close eye on pets and livestock and ensure they have access to a cool area and plenty of water.
High temperatures each day through Friday are expected to climb into the low-nineties. But daytime Heat Index readings are expected to range from 100 to 106 degrees during that period.
