Vermilion County has recorded four more COVID-related deaths. The sad news was announced late Tuesday by the Vermilion County Health Department as it also reported 98 newly-confirmed cases of COVID in the county.
The four people who died are a woman in her eighties, a woman in her seventies, a man in his eighties, and a man in his fifties. Vermilion County has lost 163 residents to COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began.
County Health Department Administrator Douglas Toole says there are currently 27 county residents who are hospitalized with COVID. He says there are currently 317 active COVID cases in the county.
Of the 98 new cases reported Tuesday, only two of them said they had been fully vaccinated. As part of the interview process, the Health Department’s contact tracers ask each person who tests positive whether they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Because of Vermilion County’s HIGH transmission status, it is recommended that everyone – despite vaccination – should wear a mask when indoors. The Health Department is encouraging those eligible to get vaccinated, get tested, and stay home if you are feeling sick.
SHIELD ILLINOIS saliva COVID testing is occurring every Wednesday at the Vermilion County Health Department at 200 South College Street in Danville. Local hospitals (OSF, Carle, and the VA), pharmacies, Aunt Martha’s, and some private providers are providing COVID vaccination clinics, as well.
