Two swans at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville were showing off their four new cygnets Sunday. The new parents – Joe and Nellie – live at the pond year-round adjacent to North Vermilion Street. The tradition of having swans at the pond dates to 1933. And each year that a pair of beautiful swans has been there, they have always been named Joe and Nellie.
The swans usually have plenty of visitors – especially during prom, homecoming and wedding seasons. But lately people have also been stopping by to take photos of the new members of Joe and Nellie’s family.
But while it is alright to stop by for a visit, just remember the parents are very protective of their new-born cygnets. So you should keep a safe distance.
