The City of Danville is weighing a proposal to buy the Heatcraft property along East Voorhees Street to help alleviate some occasional flooding problems in that area. The purchase price — one dollar!
Danville Community Development Director David Schnelle says the city has been considering a plan for the area for over a year…
Schnelle says the city is considering some very large retention ponds on both the north and south sides of Voorhees Street. He says the estimated cost is around $1.2 million dollars and that currently no grant money is available. But he added it’s necessary for the city to get control of the land in order to seek grants.
Schnelle also says there are certain documents which must be approved in order for the City to close the deal with Heatcraft….
Heatcraft is taking responsibility for any groundwater remediation in the area according to Schnelle. The full Danville City Council is expected to consider the purchase when it meets in two weeks.
