Danville’s Municipal Swimming Pool opens this weekend, and Cindy Parson, the City’s Recreation Superintendent, says they are ready for the crowds. The pool at Garfield Park officially opens at 11:30 Saturday morning (May 26th, 2018) for those with pool passes. Regular hours for those without a pool pass are from noon until 6:00 p.m.
Parson was asked who is eligible to use the pool..
The Danville Municipal Pool will be open every day through August 10th.
Beverly Frison (on left above) oversees the concession area at the pool..
Frison runs the concession stand for the Christian Center of Hope. The former Danville District 118 School employee says she enjoys working with kids. And Frison adds both she and Parson keep a close eye on the children..
Parson (on right in photo) says this summer some new games have been added at the pool to help keep kids busy.
Both Parson and Frison say they realize some parents use the pool as a babysitting service since it is a safe place for kids to go. But one new rule that has been added this year is that any child being dropped off must be at least 12. Parson adds those under 12 must have someone with them who is at least 18.
Meanwhile, Parson says activities at other parks this summer include softball – and at Winter Park there are Wednesday kickball games. And if you need someplace for a summer gathering, Parson says shelters or pavilions can be reserved for a $50 fee.
