Job gains in manufacturing are helping to boost employment levels in the Danville and Vermilion County area. A new report from the Illinois Department of Employment security shows Vermilion County’s unemployment rate dropped by one-percent to 4.8 percent last month. In Danville, April’s jobless rate of 5.1 percent is down from 5.8 percent in March. The report is good news since last month at this time we were reporting that unemployment rates were up.
Vermilion County has gained 100 new manufacturing jobs over the past year. But the report shows the county also lost 200 Government jobs and 100 jobs (each) in both the Professional and Business Services…and the Education and Health Services categories (since April of 2017).
In Champaign County the April unemployment rate of 3.2 percent is down from 3.8 in March.
In Iroquois County the April jobless rate of 3.2 percent is down from 4.5 in March. Edgar County’s unemployment rate of 3.3 percent in April is down from 4.1 percent a year ago.
Unemployment rates decreased over-the-year in April in all of Illinois’ metropolitan areas, according to preliminary data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
