The number of COVID cases in Vermilion County continues to climb, but the percentage of the county’s total population fully vaccinated for COVID stands at only 35.50 percent.
The Vermilion County Health Department reported 88 new cases Monday afternoon. It takes the total number of cases diagnosed in the county since the pandemic began to 12,195. There are currently 238 active COVID cases in Vermilion County.
There have been 172 COVID-related deaths in Vermilion County since March of 2020. No new deaths are included in Monday’s report.
Of the 88 new cases reported Monday, two of them said they had already been fully vaccinated. County Health Administrator Douglas Toole says his office is aware of nine county residents who have become re-infected with COVID since June 1st.
The 88 new cases of COVID in Vermilion County include six infants, two toddlers, four pre-school aged children, seventeen grade school-aged children, twenty-one teenagers, and fifteen who are in their twenties. The others include one resident in their seventies, three in their sixties, five in their fifties, seven in their forties, and seven who are in their thirties.
The Vermilion County Health Department is continuing to urge residents to get vaccinated, get tested, and stay home if you are feeling sick. Also wear a face mask when indoors. Because of the county’s HIGH transmission status, it is recommended that everyone, despite their vaccination status, should wear a mask when indoors.
SHIELD Illinois saliva COVID testing is still being done at the Vermilion County Health Department every Wednesday. You can check the Health Department’s website at www.vchd.org for information about upcoming COVID vaccination clinics. Local hospitals – OSF, Carle, and the VA – along with pharmacies, Aunt Martha’s, and some private providers are providing COVID vaccination clinics, as well.
Although only 35.50 percent of the total number of Vermilion County residents have been vaccinated for COVID, some other figures are higher.
The Vermilion County Health Department says if the current estimated population for 2021 of 73,870 residents is used, the county is closer to 36.91 percent fully vaccinated.
The percentage of those who are 65 or older and have had at least one dose of protection is 73.13 percent.
The percentage of those who are 65 or older who are fully vaccinated is 69.80 percent.
Figures released Monday show 40.97 percent of Vermilion County residents ages 18 to 64 have at least one dose.
There are 902 or 14.86 percent of Vermilion County youth between 12 and 17 years old who are now fully vaccinated.
