The City of Danville is looking at ways to reduce some of the heavy traffic along North Vermilion Street, north of Voorhees. And Community Development Director David Schnelle says one of the things being considered is to move some of it…
Part of the plan would be contingent upon building a new overpass over some railroad tracks that cross Bowman south of Fairchild Street. It would cost millions of dollars, but Schnelle notes there are funding sources available….
Hanson Engineering says another way to reduce heavy traffic along Vermilion would be to have only one north-bound and one south-bound lane in the area between Voorhees and Winter Avenue…with a center turn lane. And another idea is to raise the road slightly at intersections – something that would kind of serve like speed bumps along Vermilion. Hanson Engineering found the average speed of vehicles in that residential area along Vermillion is 43-miles per hour, while the speed limit is 35.
