The local group promoting the city manager form of government for Danville heard last night (Monday) from leaders of a central Illinois community that already has it. So, how is the city manager form of government working in Streator? Mayor Jimmie Lansford told VermilionCountyFirst.com News….
Mayor Lansford (shown here) says there were some serious problems occurring back when Streator residents decided to switch to the city manager form of government…
The question on the ballot this fall in Streator will be asking residents whether they want to change back to the Mayor-Commission form of government, with four commissioners. Danville had that form of government before a voting rights lawsuit led to the current mayor-aldermanic form.
Mayor Lansford thinks each community should decide – on its own – what form of government would best represent its citizens. He and the Streator city manager were guest speakers at a forum at Danville Area Community College hosted by the group Moving Danville Forward. The question of whether Danville should change to the city manager form of government will be on the November ballot.
