It’s official, the ribbon has been cut, and McDonald’s has arrived in Covington.
After Tuesday morning’s ribbon cutting, in front of dozens of residents and guests in the new parking lot, owner-operator Deanna Witzel said is was great to have so many there.

Owner-operator Deanna Witzel addresses audience prior to ribbon-cutting for the new McDonald’s at 221 Pearl Street in Covington.
AUDIO: We are just thrilled with the turnout that we had, and all of our friends that came to support us; and many of our customers from the Danville area and Vermilion County also came to join us, and we’re just really touched by that.
Covington mayor Brad Crain said cutting the ribbon for the new McDonalds was a day he’s hoped for for quite a while.
AUDIO: It does mean a lot. This was a great turnout, beautiful day, and we’re just really happy to have McDonald’s here finally. I’ve been trying to get it for about five years. This is the day.
Witzel says it will be only drive-thru for just a couple weeks, as all the new employees can be fully set for the future.
AUDIO: To just give our staff a little bit more time to be trained; we have a lot of new people that we’ve hired just in the last couple of weeks, and so we want to be able to do a great job in serving our customers in Covington. And so we’re just going to hold off on opening the lobby just a couple of weeks to give them a little bit more time for training.
The location for the Covington McDonalds is 221 Pearl Street, right at the corner of Pearl and Route 136.
