This Saturday night marks the end of a long wait, as well as a new beginning. The Danville Symphony Orchestra had to sit out last season due to COVID. Now, not only are they back, but in their new partnership with the Fischer Theatre. Fischer Executive Director Jason Rome and DSO conductor Maestro Jeremy Swerling joined Linda Bolton on 1490 WDAN’s News Makers program, and one thing Rome pointed out was what partnerships like this could lead to.

The Fischer Theatre: A New Home for the Danville Symphony Orchestra.
AUDIO: One thing that I’m able to offer in my role at the Fischer is essentially full time staff that can mind the needs of a symphony on a full time basis. And that’s something that a lot of arts organizations really don’t have the luxury of being able to afford, having a full time staff that can handle financials, and so on and so forth. So this is a way where we can build efficiencies, and grow stronger together.
Maestro Swerling says, a lot will be learned over this coming season.
AUDIO: It’s been difficult to find administrative support that could do all the things, check all the boxes, that needed to be checked. This arrangement here is probably, in my mind, a first phase in exploring “how many of these boxes can be checked, and what boxes will be left over?”
Swerling says yes, adjustments to the Fischer stage after years on the DHS stage need to be made. But the important thing is, let’s all get together, for the first time in a long while, and celebrate music.
AUDIO: The high school stage is about 60 wide by 40 deep, and the Fischer is more deep than it is wide. We’ve got a little bit less horizontal space to work with, and a little bit more depth to work with. So it’s going to be different, but I think the square footage is just enough. (And) letting people know that it’s time to come out and be together again. We’re putting on a season, and we’re going forward. It starts this Saturday, and then in December, we’re going to have what’s called a “Swinging Christmas.”
So for tickets to either this Saturday’s Roaring 20s and Beyond show at 7:30, or the Sunday December 5th Swinging Christmas show, go to the DSO or Fischer Theatre websites, or their Facebook pages.
