The Danville City Council Public Services Committee has approved a reorganization in the police department structure. Commanders will now be referred to as lieutenants, still serving over the sergeants. There will also be a new deputy chief above the lieutenants. Danville Police Chief Christopher Yates says, this is just part of an overall adjustment process.
AUDIO: What it’s doing is it’s bringing about a change in the unity command and control. And its not just in the rank itself, but it’s also how it’s being distributed, and the numbers of people that we have in the positions.
Chief Yates says the Deputy Chief position will go to the full Danville City Council, and the appointment will be made through the mayor’s office.
