Heavy rain Thursday morning prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning for the central portion of Vermilion County. The Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency Office reported the water had receded by early afternoon, however there were still areas around Danville with standing water.
Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says there were numerous motorists who got stranded in the flooding when vehicles stalled. Motorists are reminded they should never drive into areas where water is running across a road. You and your vehicle could be swept away.
Vermilion County EMA said the central part of the county had received in excess of 2 inches of rain by midday (July 5th, 2018), and more thunderstorms were moving through the area. The National Weather Service warned that excessive runoff from heavy rainfall would cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses…along with other low spots.
Although the forecast was calling for more scattered showers and thunderstorms tonight (Thursday)…..dry weather is expected Friday through Sunday with cooler temperature
