A simple conversation over lunch can lead to great ideas, and that’s exactly what happened when Vermilion Advantage Community Development Coordinator Nicole Van Hyfte and Danville Community Relations Administrator Ashton Greer talked recently. They recalled a program seen elsewhere and thought, let’s try it here in Vermilion County. It’s called I AM, YOU ARE, WE ARE. And as Van Hyfte explains, this is a chance to recognize just everyday citizens doing positive things.
AUDIO: We both had seen “Humans of New York,” their blog, and decided that we wanted to do something like that. So we’re going around and we’re trying to find stories from people in our community that you don’t hear about everyday. People who are unsung heroes in our community.
Greer says, people are sure quick to be negative these days, so why not turn our attention to people we all know doing some special positive things.
AUDIO: It’s very rarely that you hear about the amazing people that make up the community. The lady next door that makes cookies for the neighborhood, or somebody who’s been an incredibly loyal friend of family member for many years. So we thought this would be an opportunity to begin to share.
So to find the link where you can nominate someone for recognition by the I AM, YOU ARE, WE ARE initiative, look for it on the Vermilion Advantage Facebook page, or simply go right to the I AM, YOU ARE, WE ARE Facebook page. You can find it by typing in the little @ sign and then I AM YOU ARE WE ARE VC. You can also find it on Instagram.
