Danville Police who had been pursuing a car on Saturday ended up rescuing the vehicle’s occupants when it crashed and burst into flames. Public Safety Director Larry Thomason tells VermilionCountyFirst.com News an officer tried to make a routine traffic stop of the vehicle at East Main and Kentucky Streets at 5:45 p.m., but the car fled.
Thomason says officers chased the vehicle down several streets on Danville’s east side before the driver of the car being pursued lost control. The vehicle crashed into a power pole along East Main Street near Daisy Lane and then burst into flames.
Director Thomason says police pulled four males out of the vehicle before it was destroyed by flames. He added preliminary information indicated one of the four was transferred to a Champaign-Urbana hospital for treatment. A condition report on that person was unavailable. The other three were treated in Danville and were then taken into custody according to Thomason.
The driver of the vehicle faces multiple charges including aggravated fleeing and eluding.
