A summer camp hosted by Danville Area Community College is giving some area kids a chance to show-off their musical skills. This is the seventh year that DACC has hosted the ‘First Gig Rock n’ Roll Camp’ according to camp co-founder Peter Blackmon. He says each of the young musicians is assigned to a group to make their own band…
Blackmon believes the more than forty participants involved in this year’s camp will learn about more than just music….
Blackmon remembers the first year the camp and says the gig has grown….
And the ‘Art Beat Music Fest’ is also taking place in Danville this week. Students from the First Gig Rock n’ Roll Camp will be at Danville Stadium Tuesday evening playing music in the stands. They will also be at the Kresge lot downtown for an After Hours event on Wednesday, then on Thursday the ‘Loud 100’ will be held at the Kresge lot around 6:00 p.m. Blackmon says anyone who can play a musical instrument is invited to participate in the recording of a video there.
First Gig participants will also be downtown for the Summer Sounds Concert Series at Temple Plaza Friday night (June 29, 2018), and then will perform their music starting at noon Saturday at the David S. Palmer Arena.
