A Danville City Council committee has approved a new agreement to provide police school resource officers in some local schools. But Alderman Mike O’Kane expressed concern about some SROs (school resource officers) who have gone on disability after spending time at some schools….
Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says that concern has been brought up in discussions with District 118 Superintendent Alicia Geddis…
Under the two year agreement approved by the Public Services Committee of the city council last night there would be two officers assigned to SRO duties at Danville High School…and 2 other officers would also serve all the other District 118 Schools, including the Kenneth D. Bailey Academy.
The committee also approved an agreement with District 118 for emergency access to school security video feeds and radio frequencies.
And an intergovernmental agreement with the school district for reciprocal reporting of criminal offenses committed by students was also approved. But Alderman Dan Duncheon questioned the policy asking why information should be turned over to the school district if something happens over the summer. Alderman Tom Stone also voiced concern about student privacy, but voted in favor of the agreement.
