After doing it a little differently last year, the 71st Kiwanis Pancake and Sausage Day is taking place TODAY, THURSDAY OCT 21st at the Palmer Arena in Danville. Danville Kiwanis President Jeremy Chase said it was great to be back to a full day of cooking the pancakes themselves, live and in person.
AUDIO: We’re happy to be back down here. Last year with the pandemic, we actually got McDonald’s to help contribute, and we were able to do it with them. But we’re back in person now and have people here at the Civic Center, so we’re excited about that.

As far as just how much pancake batter goes into a day like this, Chase said it’s hard to even imagine, but one thing for sure, it’s great to have some help.
AUDIO: Man, a lot! I couldn’t even tell you the exact amount. I know we’re looking to feed about 3,000 people today. And a lot of the batter, well all of the batter and syrup was donated to us from Quaker. So that was definitely a blessing there, yes.
And all the cooking and serving Kiwanis members did throughout the day will lead to what Kiwanis does best: helping the kids.
AUDIO: There’s a lot of organizations here, but I know the Boys and Girls Club, the YMCA, DARE, all for the children. Each chapter kind of raises money a little bit differently, but it’s all focused on the children.
As the Kiwanis mission statement says, they’re “dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time,” all helped by yesterday serving one pancake at a time
