Veterans Day is over a week away, but the 5th Annual Veterans 5-K Race is set for Saturday (November 6th) in Danville. The race to honor all veterans is being hosted again this year by Danville American Legion Post 210. It begins at 11:00 a.m. Saturday and is open to anyone who wishes to run – or walk – the route.
Lisa Knapp, an organizer of the event, says it is a fund-raiser to help American Legion Post 210. She says in past years the money raised has gone to support programs for veterans and to make some physical improvements at the Post – including improvements in restrooms for those with disabilities.

In addition to the race, Knapp says they want to raise awareness about Georgetown Post 203’s Mission K-9 Warriors efforts to secure funds for specially trained dogs. After the race on Saturday there will be a demonstration of the program.
Advance registration is now open online at the American Legion Post 210 Facebook page – events. The cost is $15 for ages 13 and up. Four to 12-year-old registration is $10. Those 3 and under are free.
Registration on Saturday will be $20, with registration running from 9:30 until 10:30 Saturday morning at American Legion Post 210. It is located at 201 Prospect Place (along North Jackson Street) in Danville.

Knapp adds this year some students from the JROTC program at Danville High School, Danville School District 118 Future Problem Solvers Project Valued Vets, and Peer Court will be helping with the race.
The Post 210 Honor Guard will start the race. Following the race there will be free chili and dessert at Post 210. Race t-shirts and some tickets for raffle baskets will also be available. Proceeds will help support programs for area veterans.
