A Road Rage incident on Tuesday led to the arrest of 41-year-old Dornell D. Bibbs of Danville. The initial report around 12:15 Tuesday afternoon was of shots fired in the 100 block of West Harrison Street. Officers later learned that it appeared to be a road rage incident that began with two people getting out of their vehicles and arguing, before shooting at each other and fleeing the scene.
Police later encountered a maroon GMC Envoy matching one of the vehicle descriptions at Bowman and Seminary. The driver refused to stop, leading police on a chase to near the 1500 block of East English. After that was a foot pursuit, as Bibbs allegedly ran into a nearby home’s front door, and then out the garage door, where he was apprehended. The home’s occupants stated they know Bibbs, but didn’t know he was running from police. A loaded handgun with serial numbers scratched off was recovered.
Bibbs was taken into custody on preliminary charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and fleeing and eluding a police officer. He is in custody at Danville Public Safety Building, awaiting the filing of formal charges. The person driving the other vehicle, a dark colored Pontiac Grand Am, remains at large. He’s described as an African American male wearing dark clothing, last seen driving south of Franklin from the scene. No injuries were reported.
Anyone with information is asked to call Danville Police at 217-431-2250, or Vermilion County Crimestoppers at 217-446-TIPS (8477).
