A decision on whether a new $15-million dollar housing development will come to downtown Danville is expected in May.
Jaclyn Vinson, Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Danville, discussed the plans in a meeting Monday evening. She says a non-profit group, consisting of members of the Housing Authority Board, is looking into placing the units at several sites. But it needs the Illinois Housing Development Authority to provide tax credits to do it.
Vinson says the tax credits would help the non-profit agency partner afford to construct the units. The Housing Authority of Danville has already acquired some vacant lots in the unit block of Hazel Street, directly south of the Richard Brazda Bus Terminal. Other sites are also being considered, including the spot where the old Danville City Hall was located – north of the Danville Public Library.
Vinson adds the units would not be low-income housing, but rather would be for individuals and families with moderate incomes.
