The latest unemployment numbers show that the jobs situation throughout much of Illinois has improved for the seventh consecutive month. In Vermilion County, the unemployment rate fell from 5.6 percent in September to 5.1 percent in October. Vermilion County’s rate stood at 6.7 percent in October of last year. The City of Danville’s jobless rate fell from 7.2 percent to 6.5 percent. Danville’s jobless rate stood at 8.9 percent in October of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
In Vermilion County, non-farm employment has increased by over 400 jobs compared to October of last year. The leisure and hospitality category was up by over 200 jobs, and wholesale trade was up by over 100 jobs from a year ago, as was transportation-warehousing-and utilities. The categories of government and ‘other services’ both reported a gain of over 100 jobs since last October, as well as the highest payroll gains.
