The Vermilion Housing Authority is looking to take care of two major tear down projects they’ve had in the works. Executive Director Jaclyn Vinson told Linda Bolton on 1490 WDAN’s News Makers program that the plans are on for Danville’s Fair Oaks.
AUDIO: We are taking down 14 buildings that contain 102 units, so it’s about half of the units at Fair Oaks that will be demolished. Essentially everything east of Wakely will come down in this demolition project. We will remove the roads and the sidewalks as well, just like we do in Georgetown, and then we will prepare that area for either greenspace, and a buffer to the neighborhood that’s further to the east of us, or we will consider things like a solar installation, or a playground/basketball court on that side of the development.
The second major project right now, Ramey Court in Georgetown.
AUDIO: Thirteen buildings, 26 units, they’re duplexes. And it’s adjacent to another public housing development that we have. And so we are going to demolish the structures, remove the roads and the sidewalks, and we are going to leave it as green space. We’ll do some tree planting, and add a parking lot to help the development that has a parking need.
Jaclyn Vinson told Linda Bolton that it seems like she’s been telling her staff for five-and-a-half years that things are going to slow down, but they never do. The Vermilion Housing Authority always seems to be busy, including their amazing task of relocating 130 families during the pandemic.
