A collision along Interstate 74 in Fountain County, Indiana this (Wednesday) morning has claimed the life of a young Danville woman. Indiana State Police say 25-year-old Lea Michelle Chapman was killed when the car she was driving crashed into the rear of a semi tractor trailer.
Troopers say their preliminary investigation found that Chapman’s 2011 model car was traveling eastbound in the right lane. Chapman’s car hit an eastbound semi that had just pulled into the right lane of the interstate and was gaining speed. The driver of the semi, who was from Michigan, was checked at the scene by medics but was not hurt.
State Police say seat belts were being worn by both drivers, but the severity of the impact was too great for Chapman to survive. The crash occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. near the 7 mile marker. The location is on Interstate 74 about one mile west of exit 8 – which is the Covington exit.
