The Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Danville, Jaclyn Vinson, says she is optimistic about chances for getting $15-million dollars in new housing in the city’s downtown area. The Housing Authority Board formed a non-profit group in order to apply for tax credits through the Illinois Housing Development Authority. The tax credits would be used to help arrange financing for the project.
Vinson talked about the plans on WDAN Radio’s News Makers program Monday (February 19, 2019) and described what is being proposed…

The new units are proposed for construction on some vacant downtown lots – including some along Hazel Street south of the Richard Brazda Bus Terminal and where the old city hall stood north of the Danville Public Library. But one lot that was being considered at Walnut and Harrison Streets was removed from the list because of public concern about downtown parking – especially once the Fischer restoration project is completed.
Vinson noted Danville – as a community – has not been seeing investment in new housing….
And Vinson pointed out examples of housing in Vermilion County where the tax credit process was previously used. One is the New Holland Apartments in downtown Danville which were renovated using tax credits. Another is the Prairie Meadows development in Hoopeston.
