The efforts continue within the Vermilion County Board concerning the possibility of Vermilion becoming the 67th county in the state to declare itself a Second Amendment Sanctuary County; where local authorities would be allowed to set their own laws when it comes to gun control, despite what state or federal gun laws might be.
County Board Chairman Larry Baughn says that during Tuesday night’s County Board meeting, a presentation was made, and talks will continue into the new year about tweaking the current proposal; mainly to, as Baughn explains, give the sheriff a little more authority at his own recognizance.
AUDIO: A presentation by Pastor Phil Jackson was presented to the board, and it gave the board the opportunity to ask a couple questions to Pastor Jackson. He and myself, as well as a few other County Board members, and another gentleman from the Vermilion County Constitutionalists, plan to sit down between now and January 11th at our next board meeting, and tweak the resolutation with just some verbage changes. And we plan to take it to a vote on January the 11th.
Also during Tuesday night’s County Board meeting, a proclamation was read in honor of Hoopeston mayor Bill Crusinberry, who recently passed away; and redistricting maps for the next election cycle were passed. Baughn says the new maps are minor adjustments based on population, with the Vermilion County Board continuing to have nine districts, with three representatives each.
