THE FOLLOWING IS FROM THE VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE:
Darren Monroe, 57, was found guilty on January 27, 2022 by a Vermilion County Jury of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, a Class X Felony; and Aggravated Domestic Battery, a Class 2 Felony. During the trial, presided over by Honorable Charles Hall, the Jury heard testimony from the victim, T.M., on how her estranged husband, Monroe, entered her home in December of 2019; beat her about the face and head, strangled her, made her remove her clothing, and sexually assaulted her.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 16, 2022. Monroe faces a sentencing range of nine years to 44 years of imprisonment, all of which must be served at 85%. Any sentence he receives will be followed by three years to life of Mandatory Supervised Release, and he will be required to register as a Sex Offender for the remainder of his days.
