Two veterans of the annual Neuhoff Sports Media Camp are working the Super Bowl this weekend. One of those former Sports Media Camp youngsters is 2016 Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School graduate Jordan Anderson. Shortly after graduating from Galesburg’s Knox College in 2019 with a Sports Management Communications degree, Anderson joined the NFL and became a Social Media Producer. Yes, a great job for right out of college. But Anderson says it was no accident.
AUDIO: And the opportunities that I had in college to intern at stations like WCIA-3 in Champaign, working my college’s sports information department, and along the way, kind of just continuing to build a connection base. And eventually that connection base led to a few connections out here in Los Angeles. When you’re given an opportunity to not let anybody else outwork you, and try your best; I think everything will work out in your favor if you constantly put in hard work.
Over the years, numerous youngsters have learned about sportscasting and sports media work by attending the Neuhoff Sports Media camp; with highlights including a 2012 field trip to St. Louis sponored by the St. Louis Cardinals.
As for his duties for during this Sunday’s big game, Anderson says, it’s a constant process.
AUDIO: (We’re) a team that is working on a show called “NFL Gameday Final.” So part of our job is to monitor social throughout the show, and post social from team reaction to player reaction, stuff like that. We integrate that social media into a network broadcast. So Gameday Final is kind of our premier show right after the Super Bowl on the field. We’ll have NFL Hall of Famers hosting and stuff like that.
Anderson also offered a story from a couple Super Bowls ago, which also reminds us, you know what, tweets really do stay around forever.
Jordan Anderson (L) and Luke Steiner (R) in Los Angeles for Super Bowl.
AUDIO: Patrick Mahomes tweeted out when he was ten years old, he was like, “Oh, I would love to say the words ‘I’m going to Disneyland’ after I win a Super Bowl. (So) we brought that tweet back and asked him about it.
Anderson says that was also a good lesson about having a goal, and working hard to reach it. Jordan Anderson still helps with Neuhoff Media’s annual Sports Media Camp, when he can.
Luke Steiner, currently a graduate student at Ohio University, is another Neuhoff Sports Media Camp veteran working this year’s Super Bowl. A story about him will be on this site later this week.
