New unemployment numbers are out and they show improvement in the Danville and Champaign-Urbana areas. The Illinois Department of Employment Security says Vermilion County’s jobless rate fell from 7.0 percent to 6.3 percent during February. Danville’s unemployment rate dropped from 7.1 to 5.9 percent.
In Champaign County the February unemployment rate of 4.7 percent is down from 5.4 percent in January.
Other area counties also saw improvement in their numbers. In Edgar County the February unemployment rate of 5.4 percent compares to 6.2 in January. And in Iroquois County the unemployment rate fell from 6.6 to 6.0 percent.
In Vermilion County job gains were reported in the Retail Trade and Professional & Business Services categories. Each gained 100 jobs compared with this time a year ago. But the Danville area lost 100 jobs over the year in the Mining and Construction category.
Area employers advertised for 4,700 positions in February and approximately 79-percent sought full-time employment, according to Help Wanted OnLine data compiled by the Conference Board. The Board is a global, independent business membership and research association.
