The Vermilion County Finance and Personnel Committee continues to explore salary adjustments for county employees, department by department. As County Board Chairman Larry stated before, the idea is to bring county salaries in line with where they should be to retain good employees, and to do it right; department by department, to set a precedent for anytime it needs done again in the future.
AUDIO: The main thing is, we’re looking at some of these salaries that are just right now; especially some of our, like our janitorial staff for instance. Some of their salaries are not much over what the current minimum wage is now. And they’re got two or three years, or four or five years in with us. And we need to take care of our people, because we want to keep them around. They do a good job for us.
Baughn says areas already talked about include the Health Department, Building and Grounds, Janitorial and Custodian Staff, and part of the courthouse. The administration building is among areas still needing to be talked about.
The Finance and Personnel Committee plans to resume discussions on this on Tuesday, February 22nd. Baughn says by mid to late spring there will hopefully be a complete proposal in front of the entire County Board.
