Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says the decision of a multi-billion dollar company that specializes in deliveries to not come to Danville right now is basically a case of “not the right time.” The Danville City Council recently created a new liquor license, as this company desired to be able to include “liquor in its original package” among their delivery offerings.
But Williams says they have decided not to come, at least not right now, due to a variety of factors.
AUDIO: The reason that they gave was overall market conditions; and just that right now with things churning with the pandemic and having difficulty finding workers and stuff, it wasn’t the right time. They haven’t said that they’re never coming, just that they’re not coming now.
A while back, Mayor Williams had stated that this company already put a least on an existing building in Danville. He says, that’s still in effect, and hopefully if they do not end up moving in, someone else will.
AUDIO: Well my hope is if they don’t have plans to come within the next year, that they’ll give up their lease. And I’ve talked with their representatives of doing so, because it’s in a very high traffic area that would be a prime location for something else.
Tim Dudley from Vermilion Advantage also expressed hope that once the COVID situation and other economic factors improve, this company might still call Danville home someday.
