People who picked up free food at Mark Denman Elementary School in Danville on Saturday were greeted by a number of volunteers. Among those passing out food were Sydney Spesard and Haley Carlton, both fifteen-year-old sophomores at Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School.
Spesard noted it was not the first time they have helped the Eastern Illinois Foodbank…
{‘’Me and my friend Haley here, we like to volunteer every month or so. And it looks good. I always feel very accomplished and happy afterwards.”}

Carlton explained what they were handing out….
{‘’Right now we’re just giving-out, you know, the basic necessities like milk, some packaged meals and some fruit. And it really is an experience getting to do this.’’}
Staci Disney, Foodmobile volunteer captain, says the volunteers are essential. She also explained how others can help…
{‘’All they have to do is go to the website. You can sign-up to be a volunteer, (and) get on their email list. And then when volunteer opportunities come up, you can do the Foodmobile in your local community. You can actually go to the Eastern Illinois Foodbank and do re-packs. So there’s so many volunteer opportunities for people.’’}
The Eastern Illinois Foodbank is headquartered in Urbana. It says every dollar that is donated helps provide an entire day of meals. More information about the Eastern Illinois Foodbank is available at www.eifoodbank.org.
