A wonderful moment Monday afternoon when Abby Carlton’s third grade class at Garfield Elementary School was officially invited to be the ambassador class at this July’s Balloon’s Over Vermilion event at the Vermilion Regional Airport. One of the group that made the official invitation: hot air balloon pilot Joe Vincent.
AUDIO: Danville gets behind this so well, it makes it an incredible event. There’s over 300 volunteers that actively work on this every year to pull this off. I believe it really pulls the community together. It’s great to have it back.

Balloons Over Vermilion’s Jackie Vinson led the way in taking some great questions from the students. She says, no doubt, it’s great to have events like Balloons Over Vermilion back on the schedule.
AUDIO: The community’s ready for it. We love bringing this event for the kids, that’s why we do it. And it’s really wonderful to be able to partner with the school district and this class; to bring Vermilion County’s Balloons Over Vermilion back.
For Mrs. Carlton, getting involved in Balloons Over Vermilion is a dream come true for her, as balloons is one of her favorite subjects.
AUDIO: I’m so excited. I have been begging to be able to represent BOV with my classroom. I always do balloon lessons, so I always start the year off with learning about balloon history and how they work. And so this way we can actually showcase what we know. So yes; we’re really, really excited.
This year’s Balloons Over Vermilion at the Vermilion Regional Airport is set for July 8th and 9th. Mrs. Carlton’s class will be designing some balloon themed T-shirts, and helping make some decisions about other attractions at this year’s event. And yes, they’ll all be getting hot air balloon rides as well.
