A Danville man is now facing an additional charge in the February, 2018 beating and stabbing death of a local businessman. Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy informed 20-year-old Christopher Condon today (Monday) that he had been indicted by a Vermilion County Grand Jury on a sixth count of First Degree Felony Murder. Lacy said if convicted on that charge in the death of businessman Jay Hein, Condon would face a possible sentence of 20 to 60 years in prison – and he could get natural life in prison.
Judge Nancy Fahey set a new trial date in the case for July 8th. Condon claims he is innocent.
Hein was 51 when his body was found in his home in the 3600 block of Bayview Drive in February of 2018. Danville Firefighters found the body after a neighbor reported there was smoke coming from the home. Firefighters found a small fire inside along with Hein’s body. The victim had suffered multiple stab wounds and was beaten with a hammer according to information released in an earlier court hearing.
Condon’s trial was continued today until July 8th.
