THE FOLLOWING IS AN ILLINOIS STATE POLICE RELEASE
PESOTUM, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) officials are investigating a shooting, which occurred on March 26, 2022, at approximately 2:03 a.m. on Interstate 74 eastbound near milepost 181, Champaign, Champaign County.
ISP officers responded to a reported shooting at the above location and time. Upon arrival, ISP officers learned the victim vehicle crashed into the center median wall after being struck by gunfire from an unknown suspect vehicle traveling in the same direction. The driver of the victim vehicle, a 31-year-old male of Champaign, IL, suffered injuries from gunfire and the passenger of the victim vehicle, a 26-year-old female of Champaign, IL sustained injuries from the traffic crash. The driver and passenger of the victim vehicle were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
At approximately 2:10 a.m., the eastbound lanes of Interstate 74 were closed for the investigation and traffic was diverted off at Prospect Avenue. At approximately 6:20 a.m., the eastbound lanes were reopened. The events surrounding the shooting remain under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
