Illinois home owners who have fallen behind on monthly mortgage payments and/or related housing expenses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be able to apply for assistance from the state. Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Housing Development Authority say struggling homeowners will be eligible to get up to $30-thousand dollars in free assistance to pay past due mortgage payments, property taxes and insurance, plus delinquent homeowner and/or condo association fees. The $309-million dollars in funding is being provided by the American Rescue Plan.
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin applauded the Illinois Housing Development Authority for its leadership in delivering the emergency funds and is encouraging eligible homeowners in need to apply for the assistance.
Homeowners in need of assistance can find more information about program eligibility and can start the application process by visiting www.illinoishousinghelp.org. Applications will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
