A Danville City Council committee is recommending approval of a $1.3 million dollar contract for sanitary sewer and manhole improvements in a neighborhood in the central part of town. City Engineer Sam Cole explains the project….
{AUDIO: ”We will be doing sewer lining, manhole lining, and fixing a lot of broken sewers in that area. (It’s) appromimately 7,000-ish feet. It starts actually south of Jackson and Voorhees – kind of like Jackson and English. It extends north of Voorhees and then goes off into the neighborhoods there to the east and west.”}
Plans are to target other areas of the city for similar improvements in future years.
Members of the Public Works Committee also recommended approval of a $227-thousand dollar professional services agreement to help obtain grant money to extend pedestrian paths along East Voorhees, North Bowman Avenue and Michigan Streets…
{Audio: ”We are starting phase one – preliminary engineering we’ll consider it – for sidewalk projects along Bowman Avenue just to the north of Voorhees, and then Voorhees Street from Bowman out to Michigan Avenue. The idea is to provide a way for people to walk and bike to work, to the neighborhoods, to the businesses that are out there.”}
In addition, the Public Works Committee voted to authorize an application to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to assist in efforts to revitalize Danville’s downtown area.
The $150-thousand dollars being requested would be used to create and implement a downtown revitalization plan in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. All of the recommendations must still be approved by the full Danville City Council.
