Vermilion County residents who qualify will have a chance to receive free personal computers from Cook County’s PCs for People. State Rep Mike Marron’s office has been partnering on this effort, which will take place Monday, April 25th; from 11 to 2 at the Vermilion County Works – American Job Center, 407 North Franklin in Danville. Marron says, getting used personal computers to people who need them can make all the difference.
AUDIO: My staff happened to find out about this organization in Cook County that does this; provides PCs for People, low income individuals that may not have access to computers. It’s just a critical part of life that people need. So this is a good way to get older, used, recycled computers out to people. They’ve been scrubbed, with new memory. It’s a way to get these tools to people that need them.
Qualifications for a free computer include if you receive SNAP, Medicaid, Federal Public Housing Assistance, the Veterans Benefit Pension Program; or if you have a household income less than 135% of the federal poverty guidelines.
If you are enrolled, or have recently completed a workforce training and development program; you would also qualify for a free mobile hotspot and one year of internet service. You need to have an existing Indeed account for the latter, or be willing to set one up at time of pickup.
Pre-registration is required. You can pre-register at https://bit.ly/3q4KmFA.
