Tuesday, April 19th, will be a very big day for Danville. First, the groundbreaking ceremony will take place in the afternoon for the new Golden Nugget Casino. Then, a presentation about the casino plans will take place before the Danville City Council during Tuesday night’s meeting.
But also during that Danville City Council meeting, City Administration will be presenting their official proposal for the allocation of American Rescue Plan Act funds. Danville is receiving $24.7 million in ARPA COVID relief money, and the Council has heard lots of feedback on ways that it could be used. Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr has told our news department that the main focus will be on something that’s been talked about a lot: the Garfield Park swimming pool.
AUDIO: This is our initial proposal. We are focusing heavily on the Garfield Pool and Park project. And then the vast majority of the rest of the funds would be going to infrastructure; and then from there some public health and quality of life types of recommendations. So I think it’s something that the community will support.
Tuesday night’s Danville City Council meeting is set for 6 PM.
