Danville Area Community College is hosting an electronic recycling event right in the main north parking lot, Saturday May 14th from 9 to 11 AM. Vermilion County Public Health Administrator Douglas Toole says this is especially a great opportunity to get rid of big electronics like old televisions and computer monitors.
But more than anything, he says all electronics down to unwanted cell phones should be recycled. Not only does it keep lots of bulk out of landfills, but most of that gadgetry in those items can be put to use somewhere.
AUDIO: These things have a lot of components that can get reused. There are recylable markets for some of those plastics that are in it. They can find a second life for most of the components of the stuff people are bringing us. We are lucky to have two big recycling companies here in Vermilion County, both Mervis Industries and Bryant Industries, that take a lot of electronics. But neither one of them are big on taking televisions or computer monitors. So if you’ve got those things, this is a great opportunity to get of them.
This collection will not accept items such as household batteries, paint, motor oil, or large appliances. For a full list of items that will and will not be accepted, go to the Vermilion County Health Department’s website at vchd.org; or to the health department facebook page.
