Danville Police are probing four separate shooting incidents which have occurred since early Sunday (May 26th). Police Commander Joshua Webb says the first occurred around 2:20 a.m. Sunday in the area of Williams and Elm Street. When police arrived they discovered two people had been shot. One is a 20-year-old male who was shot in the shoulder. The other is a 19-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back.
Police say the victims told them they were getting into a vehicle when multiple gunshots rang out from an unknown location. The victims were taken to an area hospital with what were called ‘non-life threatening wounds’.
The second shooting was reported in the area of the 1200 block of Chandler Street in Danville around 1:30 Monday morning (May 27th).
When police arrived they found a 22-year-old Danville woman with gunshot wounds to a hand and her abdomen. The victim said she was at a party in the 1200 block of Chandler when two black men started shooting at her. The woman was admitted to an area hospital in stable condition. Danville Police checked the area but were unable to locate any suspects.
The third shooting shortly after midnight this morning had police returning to the same site of Monday’s shooting in the 1200 block of Chandler. Police learned that a residence had been struck by gunfire but no one inside was hurt. Commander Webb says it is believed this morning’s shooting is related to the shooting on Monday.
And in the fourth incident, Danville Police responded to the area of the 300 block of Alexander Street on a report of shots fired shortly before 12:30 this (Tuesday) morning. Police spoke to a victim who said she heard multiple shots and her home was hit multiple times by bullets. The victim said she was inside and did not see where the shoots originated. A witness, though, told police he observed two black males walk up to the home…start shooting…and then run from the area. No injuries were reported in that incident.
The shooting on Alexander Street occurred in the same area where a 41-year-old driver for Domino’s Pizza was murdered on April 30th. The victim, Terry L. Gaines was shot when two suspects tried to rob him as he walked back to his car after delivering a pizza, according to police.
Danville Police are continuing to investigate all of these incidents. Anyone who has any information that might help solve these crimes is asked to call Danville Police at (217) 431-2250….or call Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
