The World Punkin Chunkin Championship is coming this fall to Rantoul. Team captains have voted to move the event from Delaware to Rantoul. For over 33 years the competition has occurred in Sussex County Delaware.
The property owner in Bridgeville, Delaware decided to discontinue hosting the event. It will now be held on land that was previously part of Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul.
Organizers of the competition said the site in Rantoul and the hospitality of the community made Rantoul an attractive location.
It has been a mission of the non-profit to conduct its annual event and give funds back to the community in the form of donations and scholarships for children. Since its inception, organizers say the Punkin Chunkin event has contributed over $1-million dollars in donations and scholarships.
Currently the event is planned for November 1st through 3rd in Rantoul.
