A capital spending bill which was just approved by Illinois legislators includes funds for some key projects in our area. Danville Area Community College and Westville’s Zamberletti Park are among areas that will see projects funded if Governor JB Pritzker signs the legislation.
DACC trustees have already set-aside funds for a 25-percent local match that will see a $3-million dollar upgrade to the Clock Tower Center on campus. Danville Area Community College President Stephen Nacco notes it is the home to the Liberal Arts Education, Humanities, Arts, Psychology, English, Social Sciences, and Criminal Justice programs on campus. The building also serves as a t-v studio.
Other funds will help upgrade the Julius W. Hegeler Horticulture Building on campus. The building serves as the college’s center for horticulture, sustainability, and business agriculture classes.
State Senator Scott Bennett says another $50-thousand dollars is included in the capital program for improvements at Westville’s Zamberletti Park. Mayor Mike Weese says it will be combined with money already raised by the Village and the Zamberletti Park Improvement Commission. He says the money will help pay for renovations that have already been completed on restrooms and new playground equipment which is currently being installed.
