The Danville City Council Public Works Committee has approved a proposal, prepared by Vice-Mayor Bob Iverson, to increase salaries of elected officials. If approved by the full City Council, increases for the mayor, city treasurer, and seven of 14 aldermen would take effect after the next municipal elections in the spring of 2023. Raises for the other seven aldermen positions would take effect in the spring of 2025, after the current terms expire.
The mayor’s position, for example, would increase from $75,000 to $95,000 in May of 2023, and eventually increase to $125,000 in May of 2026. The treasurer would increase from $45,000 to $50,000 in May of 2023, and eventually increase to $65,000 in May of 2026. Aldermen, starting in May of 2023, would go from $225 to $300 monthly, or $3,600 annually.
Public Works Committee chairman Michael Puhr agreed with Iverson that the increases are needed to help attract quality candidates well into the future.
