Every June, the Danville Area Community College Board of Trustees receives an annual report from the Athletic Department. This month’s meeting featured an appearance by the DACC Softball team, which earned a No. 7 ranking in this year’s NJCAA national-championship tournament. Also appearing before the Board were the two DACC golfers (Caleb Lavender and Tyler Strako) who qualified for the NJCAA championship. Even more impressive was the report that Athletic Director Tim Bunton gave on the classroom successes of DACC student-athletes. A record 25 athletes earned a grade-point average of over 3.50, and 54 of the 83 athletes had a GPA over 3.0. The softball and baseball team GPA’s were 3.33 and 3.32 respectively. Women’s basketball players collectively earned a 3.03 GPA while the men averaged a respectable 2.83.
