Once again, the Danville Barbershop Chorus is heading to St. Louis to sing the National Anthem prior to a Cardinals-Cubs game on Friday night. President Eric Westfall says even if this is the fourth time, that feeling of amazement never gets old.
AUDIO: The newness still hasn’t worn off, and I don’t know that it will ever wear off; just because it’s an honor to be able to go on a Major League baseball field and sign the National Anthem. So I don’t think it’ll ever be old hat. I think the giddiness and the excitement and the fun will be there no matter how many times we do it.
Director Marty Lindvahl says there’s always some nervousness, but really no major problems with singing on such a large, open stage.
AUDIO: You get a little bit of jitters. I think it’s normal, probably good to have a little bit of nervousness. You know the guys have done really well there, and we haven’t really experienced a lot of echo or anything. So they’ll do a great job.
About 34 members of the Danville Barbershop Chorus will be making the trip.
